Peter Dinklage’s Early Life

Peter Hayden Dinklage was born on June 11, 1969, in Morristown, New Jersey, to parents John Carl Dinklage, an insurance salesman, and Diane Dinklage, an elementary school music teacher. Living with achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism, Peter stands at a full adult height of 4 feet 5 inches (135 cm). As a child, he grappled with feelings of anger and bitterness regarding his condition.

Growing up in Mendham Township, New Jersey, alongside his older brother Jonathan, who later became a professional violinist, Dinklage's early exposure to theater occurred in fifth grade when he took on the lead role in a production of "The Velveteen Rabbit." He attended Delbarton School, a Catholic private school for boys, and it was a 1984 production of "True West" that sparked his passion for acting.

After graduating with a drama degree from Bennington College in 1991, Dinklage moved to New York City. In an attempt to establish a theater company with his friend Ian Bell, they faced financial struggles.
