Early Career 

Dustin Poirier started his journey as a professional MMA fighter in 2009. He initially fought in local events across Louisiana and the Southern United States, quickly establishing a remarkable 7-0 winning streak. 

Poirier's first setback came in 2010 during his debut in World Extreme Cagefighting, where he was defeated by Danny Castillo via unanimous decision. However, he made a strong comeback later that year, securing a victory over Zach Micklewright through a TKO at WEC 52.

UFC Career: 2011-2017  

Dustin Poirier transitioned to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) following the merger of World Extreme Cagefighting into the UFC in late 2010. His UFC debut was on the first day of 2011 when he replaced the injured José Aldo and won against Josh Grispi.

Following this, Poirier achieved victories over Jason Young, Pablo Garza, and Max Holloway. In a memorable match in May 2012, he was defeated by Chan Sung Jung, earning the Fight of the Night accolade. Later that year, Dustin overcame Jonathan Brookins, and in his early 2013 bout, he was bested by Cub Swanson.

In 2019, Poirier fought Max Holloway, the UFC Featherweight Champion, for the Interim UFC Lightweight Championship.
