Taylor Swift's dad accused of attacking photographer in Sydney
Taylor Swift's father Scott Swift is facing accusations of assaulting a paparazzo on Tuesday morning in Sydney.
This allegedly occurred after he and the pop superstar exited a boat, just hours following the final performance of her Eras Tour in the capital.
Scott has been a constant presence at his daughter's sold-out shows, traveling with her from city to city. Early Tuesday morning in Sydney, the 71-year-old, affectionately known as Papa Swift by fans, reportedly confronted a photographer after disembarking from a boat with his daughter around 2:30 a.m.
Officials in New South Wales told The Hollywood Reporter that something happened at Sydney's Neutral Bay Wharf early Tuesday, but they didn't say who was involved in the fight.
Authorities stated this morning that a 71-year-old man reportedly assaulted a 51-year-old man at Neutral Bay Wharf around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, before departing the scene.
The younger person reported what happened, so officers from the North Shore Police Area Command are investigating. Fortunately, the man did not need medical attention.
Sydney police confirmed on Tuesday afternoon, over the phone, that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
In a statement to THR, the singer's representative stated that "two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water."
Ben McDonald, the 51-year-old CEO of Matric Media Group and the photographer involved, shared his version of events with the Daily Mail. He questioned the claim made by Swift's team that a woman was threatened, saying, "Which female was that? The only one there was Taylor."
McDonald recounted to the Mail, "She got off the boat, she walked towards security guards who were shoving umbrellas in our faces, and then he charged," indicating that he initially mistook Papa Swift for a security guard.
A video posted by the Mail Online shows Swift and her father leaving the dock at Neutral Bay Wharf. Swift is under an umbrella, and her father is seen raising his middle finger at the photographers.
At one point, security can be heard in the footage instructing not to touch the umbrella; then, the camera jolts and a man exclaims, "That wasn't me, that wasn't me." McDonald then asks, "Who was that?"
The photographer mentioned that the singer was inside a vehicle when he was attacked - an attack he claims he did nothing to provoke. "I've been doing this for 23 years and I haven't been in a situation where someone's hit me in the chops," he stated.
