Early Life and the Spark of Meteorology

Stephanie Abrams was born on 27 October 1978 in Wellington, Florida. Growing up, after her parents divorced, with her father, Barry Abrams, an infectious disease specialist, she spent most of her childhood attaining academic excellence. She had the knack for slowly developing a fondness for the study of meteorology.

Academic Pursuits and the Path to Meteorology

Abrams's academic journey was nothing short of impressive. She attended Forest Hill Community High School, later studying at Wellington High School, where she was an avid cheerleader. Her interest in the study of meteorology took her to the University of Florida, where she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Geography, and a minor in Mathematics, and graduated with honors, furthermore, getting elected to the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa society.

Not content to stop there, Abrams earned a second degree, a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, from FSU. While at FSU, she developed her skills with on-air forecasts in the student-run news and weather production "FSU Live" and served as a teaching assistant, teaching a class on meteorology.

Breaking into the World of Television Meteorology

Abrams began her career as a morning meteorologist for WTXL, the ABC affiliate in Tallahassee, Florida. In July 2003, she joined The Weather Channel as a reporter and fill-in anchor.

National Spotlight: Co-Hosting with Al Roker

On July 20, 2009, Abrams made her impression on national television as she co-anchored "Wake Up with Al" alongside the legendary Al Roker every weekday morning from NBC studios in New York. Besides bringing out her meteorological expertise, it showed how engaging she could be on a bigger scale.

She has substituted for Roker on "Today" and appeared alongside Sam Champion on "America's Morning Headquarters" (AMHQ), further sealing her as one of the most popular on-air personas in the weather genre.
