Roberta made her first appearance in the industry back in 2006, with Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind. After her debut as an actor, she made her debut as a screenwriter and wrote the film Otis Under Sky. Moreover, she was also one of the stars of the film. However, she wasn't getting much recognition for her debut works. 

But after that, she played the character of a young and confident lesbian, Joan in the off-Broadway musical Fun Home, which later on won the Tony Awards. And it also provided Roberta with the spotlight she deserved. 

Then again, she made her appearance in the 2012 comedy series Girls. After that, she also appeared in the drama series, The Deuce which was created by George Pelecanos and David Simon. Following that, she starred in the Latino television drama, Vida, in its second season as a regular cast which further strengthened her presence in the industry.

If you didn't know, Roberta's most recent project is a drama named Cassandro. The drama was directed by the Oscar and Emmy-winning filmmaker Roger Ross Williams and was released just a few months ago on January 20.

The drama, Cassandro is an autobiography of the gay wrestler Saúl Armendáriz who goes by the name of Cassandro. And Roberta plays the character opposite of the protagonist, Saúl Armendáriz, who is played by Gael Garcia Bernal. 

Roberta plays the best friend of the protagonist and finds herself in a community of young fighters in the Lucha Libre world. She plays a small yet significant role in the drama being next to the protagonist.
