On 24th February 2003, Trujillo joined 'Metallica', after two years of Jason Newsted resigned. For joining the band, he received $1 million as an advance. In ‘Metallica’, he is as bass guitarist, James Hetfield as guitarist and vocalist, Lars Ulrich as a drummer, and Kirk Hammet as lead guitarist. 

According to Forbes, Metallica made in the list at #30 with $68.7 million, with the majority of those earnings coming from touring.

Before joining Metallica, he was in a band ‘Suicidal Tendencies’ as the bassists through which he got immense fame. 

With the band, he released album, 'Controlled by Hatred/Feel Like Shit…Déjà Vu’. He remained in the band until the mid-1990s then, joined, Infectious Grooves along with Mike Muir.
