Mike Patrick is a former sportscaster in the United States. He is well known for being the longest-serving play-by-play announcer for ESPN.

Patrick was born in the United States on September 6, 1952, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He graduated from George Washington University with a four-year liberal arts degree in discourse.

Beginning of his Career

Patrick began his television career with WVSC-Radio in Somerset, Pennsylvania, in the fall of 1966. He became the Sports Director of WJXT-TV in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1970, and did play-by-play for the Jacksonville Sharks' World Football League (WFL) telecasts (1973–74). He was also a radio and television announcer for Jacksonville University basketball games.

He worked as a sportscaster and weekend announcer for WJLA-TV from 1975 through 1982. Patrick also provided play-by-play for Maryland Terrapins football and basketball broadcasts, as well as pre-season games for the Washington Redskins, during this time.

He worked for ESPN from 1982 until 2005, where he was most recognized for his role as play-by-play announcer on the network's Sunday Night Football telecasts alongside Paul Maguire and Joe Theismann. 

In 2006, Patrick, along with game reporter Holly Rowe and Todd Blackledge, became the lead match commentators for ESPN on College Football Primetime. He also began announcing Saturday afternoon ESPN/ABC college football for the 2009 college football season in July 2009, and he continued to do so until 2017.

Retirement from ESPN

Patrick resigned from ESPN after a 35-year tenure there. On December 30, 2018, he called his final game for the network, the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. Patrick was also honored as part of the ESPN network's homage.
