Michael Anthony Richards was born on 24th July 1949 in Culver City, California, the United States. He is the only child of Phyllis Nardozzi and William Richards. 

His late father was a medical records librarian who died in a car crash when he was just 2 years whereas his mother is an electrical engineer. Speaking of his educational history, he graduated from Thousand Oaks High School. 

Later, he joined the California Institute of the Arts and Los Angeles Valley College. Then, he graduated with a BA degree in drama from The Evergreen State College in 1975. Anthony married a family therapist Cathleen Lyons from 1974 to 1992 with whom he has a daughter named Sophia born in 1975. 

As of now, he is married to Beth Skipp from 2010 and has a son together named Antonio Baz Richards.
