Meet Starlet Dugard: Unraveling the Story Behind Jaycee Dugard's Daughter
Starlet Dugard is the daughter of Jaycee Dugard, who became well-known after her mom wrote a book called "A Stolen Life: A Memoir." The book talks about the tough times Starlet and her mom faced when they were kept captive.
Starlet Dugard Was Born When Her Mom Was 17 Years Old
Starlet Dugard was born on November 13, 1997, to her mom, Jaycee Dugard, when Jaycee was just 17 years old. Her birth happened in the backyard of the house where they were kept captive in California. Jaycee had been taken by Phillip Garrido and Nancy Garrido when she was only 11.
Growing up in this tough situation was hard for Starlet. Even though things were unusual, her mom tried hard to make life good for them. Despite having only a fifth-grade education, Jaycee started teaching her two daughters at home.
When Starlet was born, Jaycee didn’t go to the hospital. Instead, the Garridos gave her a drug called codeine for the pain and made her watch videos about giving birth, so she had to deliver the baby by herself. It was a very difficult start for Starlet.
Starlet Dugard Believed Her Mother Was Her Sister
Starlet Dugard and her sister Angel were very young when their mother gave birth to them. They grew up thinking their mom was their sister, and they considered Phillip Garrido and Nancy Garrido, who had kidnapped them, as their parents. This was what they were taught by the Garridos.
It was tough to explain to the girls that Jaycee was their mom, not their sister, which the Garridos had led them to believe. Jaycee, despite her difficult past, saw Phillip as her kids' dad until a few years ago.

Jaycee mentioned that while she wouldn't want her daughters to meet him, she had to respect their choice if they wanted to, as long as they were safe and he remained behind bars.
Starlet Dugard's Biological Father Committed Multiple Crimes
Jaycee Dugard, Starlet Dugard's mother, was kidnapped at the age of 11 near Lake Tahoe in 1991. During her captivity, she suffered abuse and rape at the hands of Phillip Garrido, resulting in her pregnancy.
Phillip, born on April 5, 1951, in Pittsburg, California, was known for abducting, being a serial rapist, a pedophile, and a hebephile. Before his imprisonment for Jaycee's case, he had a history of various criminal offenses.
Garrido had a charge for sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl, but the case didn't proceed as the girl chose not to testify. In 1973, he married his classmate Christine Murphy, and after raping her for eight hours in a rented storage container, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Phillip abducted her when she tried to leave due to his abusive behavior. In a 1976 court evaluation, Philip was diagnosed as a "sexual deviant and chronic drug abuser."
Starlet Dugard's Mother Managed to Escape From Captivity
After 18 years, Starlet Dugard's mother finally escaped from captivity. The breakthrough happened when a female police officer, Lisa Campbell, became suspicious of Phillip Garrido's behavior at the University of California. Garrido had reportedly taken his two daughters, born to Jaycee, to seek permission to distribute religious flyers.
Campbell, a 40-year-old manager of special events at UC Berkeley, immediately noticed Phillip's mental instability. Not only that, but his daughters, Jaycee's children, appeared pale and had an unusual vacant stare.
When Campbell asked him to return the next day, she ran a background check and discovered that Garrido was a registered sex offender. Upon his return the next day, Garrido confessed he was on parole for a rape and kidnapping incident 33 years earlier.

Although Campbell wanted to take legal action, she couldn't do so herself. However, she contacted Garrido's parole officer at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The officer confirmed that Garrido didn't have any daughters as he had claimed.
Following this revelation, Garrido and his wife, Nancy Garrido, were arrested on August 26, 2009. Phillip was sentenced to 431 years in prison for one count of kidnapping and 13 counts of sexual assault. Nancy received a sentence of 36 years to life in prison for one count of kidnapping, one count of rape by force, and under California's "one strike" rape law.
