Payton's coaching journey began in the late 1980s when he served as an assistant coach at various colleges, including San Diego State, Indiana State, and Miami (Ohio) University. In 1997, he entered the NFL as the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. After a brief stint with the New York Giants, Payton joined the coaching staff of the Dallas Cowboys in 2003 as the assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach.  

In 2006, Sean was appointed as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. Under his leadership, the team experienced remarkable success. In his first season, he led the Saints to the NFC Championship game and received the NFL Coach of the Year award. The following year, Payton and the Saints achieved their greatest milestone by winning Super Bowl XLIV in 2010, marking the first-ever Super Bowl victory for the franchise.

Skylene Montgomery and Sean Payton got married on June 18, 2022, although the original plan was to have the wedding in March 2022. They had to postpone it due to the pandemic. Their wedding took place at a resort on the Baja Peninsula, which is located along the Sea of Cortez in Mexico.

Montgomery's husband Payton is the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, a professional American football team based in New Orleans. They first met in 2014 during an NFL game between the Panthers and the Saints. At that time, Sean had recently ended his previous marriage to Beth Shuey. He proposed to Skylene during a party on November 8, 2019.
