Madilyn Mei was born in November of 2002 and spent her childhood growing up in Queen Creek, Arizona, just outside of Phoenix. She developed an early passion for writing that started as a passion for poetry before branching out into songwriting when she got her first ukulele during fourth grade. She taught herself the fundamentals of songwriting based on influences like Taylor Swift. By the fifth grade, she was performing original compositions in public, solidifying her passion for music.
Mei attended Heritage Academy Gateway to high school. During these early days, she began playing local gigs and growing her presence on Instagram starting in 2016, gaining a following online as well as learning to do her work by playing in well-known Nashville venues such as the Bluebird Cafe and The Listening Room.
