Lilly Singh was born on September 26, 1988, to Indian Punjabi Sikh immigrant parents, Sukvindar Singh and Malvindar Kaur, in Scarborough, Toronto, Canada. Lilly grew up with strong cultural and religious roots instilled in her by her parents. Lilly grew up with her older sister Tina, who is also a YouTube personality. Lilly referred to herself as a tomboy during childhood and actively engaged in young adult activities such as the Girl Guides of Canada. 

She attended Mary Shadd Public School and Lester B. Pearson Collegiate Institute and graduated from high school in 2006. She went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at York University in 2010, intending to pursue graduate school, only to see her professional career take off with YouTube. 

YouTube Career and Breakthrough 

Lilly began her career on YouTube in October 2010 under the username IISuperwomanII. She initially uploaded comedy sketches, parody characters, and culturally humorous videos, which gained a lot of popularity in no time. In 2012, after reaching 100,000 subscribers, she monetized her channel and dedicated herself fully to her YouTube career by purchasing quality camera equipment to enhance her videos. She later created a secondary channel, Lilly Singh Vlogs, in 2011 to upload behind-the-scenes and personal vlogs.

Her best-selling book, How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life (2017), also cemented her role as a motivational influencer.

Lilly diversified her career from 2015 to 2018 by attempting to pursue a music career with releases like The Clean Up Anthem and #IVIVI, commemorating her hometown. She embarked on a global tour converting her YouTube content into live performances mixing comedy, music, and inspirational speaking. Lilly made history in 2019 as the first person born in India to host an American late-night television program in NBC's A Little Late with Lilly Singh.

She also established Unicorn Island Productions for developing original content and philanthropy programs. Expanding her audience beyond entertainment, Lilly joined as a part-owner of professional sports teams like Angel City FC and Toronto Tempo, emphasizing her business sense.
