Busch's racing achievements have secured over $90 million in prizes, while endorsements have contributed equally to his substantial earnings.

Kurt Busch's Early Career Breakthroughs

When racer Chris Trickle got seriously hurt in a shooting, the Star Nursery team needed a new member. Kurt Busch had already made a name for himself in the '90s by winning the Nevada Dwarf Car championship in 1995 and the Legend Cars Western States championship in 1996.

Busch joined the Star Nursery team and scored a big win in the semi-pro NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series, earning the title of Auto Zone Elite Division Southwest Series Rookie of the Year in 1998. The next year, he and the Star Nursery team bagged the Southwest Tour Championship. Signing with Roush Racing in 1999 allowed him to step up to higher racing levels.

In 2000, Kurt competed in the Craftsman Truck Series, meant for younger drivers starting. Busch nailed four victories that year, coming second in the series point standings. He set records as the youngest driver to claim a pole and win a race. Winning a pole means acing a qualifying race for a better starting spot in the main race.

Roush promoted Busch to the Winston Cup Series for the next year, filling in for Chad Little. Although he didn't win any of his seven Winston Cup races that year, Roush Racing trusted him to race full-time in the 2001 season. He landed top-five finishes in three races and pocketed over $2 million that year.

In 2002, Kurt made a massive leap in the NASCAR Cup Series (formerly the Winston Cup Series). He triumphed in four races, grabbed twelve top-five finishes, and clinched twenty top-ten spots. Finishing the year third in points, he banked over $5 million

However, Busch's performance in the next season wasn't as steady despite winning four races and finishing eleventh in points. It wasn't until 2005 that he returned to the top ten, securing a tenth-place finish in points. 2005 also marked his move from Roush Racing to Penske Racing in 2006.

Kurt Busch Real Estate Ventures

Back in 2013, Kurt Busch invested $3.29 million in a sprawling 9,500 square-foot lakeside mansion in Mooresville, North Carolina, affectionately named "Chateau de Busch." By 2018, he put the house on the market for $3.6 million, eventually closing a deal for $3.3 million a few months later. Check out a video tour of his former residence here.

In a separate move in 2019, Busch listed a 138-acre undeveloped plot near the previously mentioned mansion for $7.6 million. Although initially attempting to sell the parcels individually, he withdrew the listing in February 2020 and seems to retain ownership as of now.

Around 2009, Kurt acquired a three-bedroom penthouse condo in Virginia Beach, Virginia, for $2.8 million. However, in 2019, he sold this property at a significant loss, settling for a final sales price of only $920 thousand.

Moreover, Busch still holds possession of an undeveloped oceanfront plot in Virginia Beach, which he tried to sell in 2016 and 2017 for $1.5 million. Presently, he remains the property owner.

Kurt Busch Controversies

Despite Kurt Busch's successful career, it hasn't been free of controversy. In 2005, he faced a suspected drunk driving incident in Maricopa County, Arizona. His sobriety test results weren't disclosed as the sheriff's department claimed a malfunction in their equipment. Consequently, Roush Racing suspended him for the last two races of that season.

Another incident in 2007 involved a race collision with his brother, Kyle Busch, leading to a fallout and a period of no communication. They later reconciled at their grandmother's urging.

During the 2011 Richmond Races, Busch accidentally collided with driver Jimmie Johnson, prompting retaliation from Johnson in the subsequent race. Kurt's reaction to questions about the rivalry led to a temper flare-up, requiring physical restraint. NASCAR placed him on probation until December 2012.

In 2015, Busch faced suspension by NASCAR following domestic abuse allegations from his former girlfriend. Though no charges were filed, he completed a reinstatement program, leading to the lifting of his suspension several months later.
