Kathryn Tappen is one of NBC Sports' most diverse voices, having hosted or reported on many of sports' greatest events, including the Olympics, Super Bowl, NFL Kickoff, Stanley Cup Playoffs, and Final, Notre Dame Football, and golf. She places a strong priority on leadership and mentorship for women in sports.

Tappen's duties expanded to include the main interviewer for NBC Sports' golf coverage of the PGA TOUR and major championships at the start of the 2022 calendar season. She garnered numerous honors, including the Associated Press Award. 

Early Life

Kathryn Tappen was born in Morristown, New Jersey on April 9, 1981, to Richard Tappen and Sheila Tappen. Amanda Tappen is her younger sister. Her great-grandfather was born in northern Spain, she disclosed on her Instagram page. She grew up playing childhood baseball and basketball on boys' teams because there were no girls' teams where she lived. She also enjoyed golf, tennis, and running cross country.

Tappen concentrated solely on track during her senior year of high school at Villa Walsh Academy, and she eventually received academic and athletic scholarships to Rutgers University. She studied journalism and ran on the cross-country and track teams at Rutgers before graduating in 2003. As a Scarlet Knight, she was a four-time Academic All-American and a Big East All-Star. She is a former athlete (at her university)  and a staunch supporter of equality.

Minor league games, regional college events, and sports discussion shows are also included. She joined the NHL Network in 2011 and became the host of "NHL Tonight," a job she held for three years. She then joined NBC Sports, and for her efforts, she was awarded the Woman of Inspiration Award by the Boston Chapter of Women in Sports and Events. She also received an Associated Press Award for her article "Swim Meet," as well as two New England Emmy Awards for sports reporting.

Controversy

Jeremy Roenick played 20 seasons in the NHL before retiring in 2009, and NBC Sports hired him as a hockey game reporter in 2010. He and Kathryn have a long history of collaboration. For several years, they co-hosted NHL coverage. They eventually become close friends. Kathryn, on the other hand, couldn't tolerate it when Jeremy Roenick conveyed a sexual fetish to his wife Tracy and his co-host, Kathryn herself, and recounted being harassed at work. In fact, she made a public remark about it saying While Jeremy and I remain good friends, what he said was wrong, especially among coworkers, and that she does not agree with his remarks.

On the Spittin' Chiclets podcast of Barstool Sports, he was chastised for making offensive statements about his teammate. Following Kathryn Tappen Jeremy Roenick's filthy joke, NBC suspended him indefinitely without pay. Jeremy Roenick, a former NHL player, and NBC hockey analyst apologized on Saturday and he acknowledged he had "gone too far." He apologized to everyone involved, as well as family and friends, and expressed gratitude for their “loving and gracious acceptance” of the apology.

After several years of courtship, the pair married. Finally, on July 18, 2009, they married in New Castle Parish Church in New Castle.

The pair eventually had three children, two daughters, and a son. They were married for five years before divorcing in 2014 for reasons that have not been made public. She is currently single and focusing on her professional life.

Who is Jay Christopher Leach? 

Jay Christopher Leach, better known as Jay Leach, is an American former professional ice hockey player who is now the head coach of the American Hockey League's Providence Bruins. He is also a former captain of the Albany Devils. The Phoenix Coyotes selected Jay Leach in the fifth round. On September 26, 2003, he signed as a free agent with the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins.

The athlete later moved on to coaching, working as an assistant for Alder Mannheim in the Deutsche Elshockey Liga. He was named interim head coach of the affiliate team in 2015 before being hired as an associate head coach under Clark Donatelli. In 2016, he departed the team to join the Providence Bruins as an assistant head coach before being promoted to head coach.

Tappen and Marine Raider Foundation

Kathryn is also involved with a charity and donating works. She also volunteers for the Marine Raider Foundation and is also a member of the foundation's board of directors. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting active and medically retired US Marine Corps members, as well as families who have lost loved ones while serving.

She even said It's just extra special when you can commemorate our troops and what these brave young women and men are ready to embark on and do in our lives. She often visits guide dogs belonging to the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, a charity organization based in New York.

Like many other sportscasters, she is also quite active online through social media profiles. She has an Instagram account where she publishes personal images of herself and her friends and family. It is under the username of @kathryntappen which has more than 155k followers.
