When the news of Jewel's death, the most tragic phase was passed by her family. In the interview of ABC-10, her father explained that when she died his life changed because it was so horrific. Later, he told that on Los Angeles Times that he couldn’t breathe and just collapse on the floor out of grief.

After her death, Brangman's father filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Honda, Takata Corporation of Japan. He also filed a lawsuit against the rental company of the vehicle in which she was driving.
