de Beaufort's maternal grandfather was born in Calcutta, a city his family called home for over three and a half centuries. Explaining her surname, de Beaufort, India has mentioned its origins in distant French ancestry. She enrolled at Esher College in Surrey, England for her education.

In 1994, India de Beaufort made an appearance in the music video Every Woman Knows by artist Lulu. A brief role followed in 1996, where she played an orphan child in an episode of Penelope Keith's Next of Kin.

At the age of 15, in 2002, de Beaufort signed with Entertainment Rights as a singer-songwriter and actress. That same year, she landed a principal character role as India Beau in the BAFTA-nominated series The Basil Brush Show.

India enjoyed three seasons with the show and even performed as a featured artist on the Christmas single Boom Boom, It's Basil Brush, which reached position 44 on the UK Singles Chart. During her time on the CBBC sitcom, she performed at Proms in the Park and participated in a nationwide tour.  

In 2006, de Beaufort took on the role of Maya in Simon Pegg's Run Fatboy Run, directed by David Schwimmer. This experience led her to transition from singing to acting. India de Beaufort is currently married to her husband Todd Grinnell. They tied the knot on August 29, 2015. Todd has appeared in notable projects such as Hollywoodland (2006), Desperate Housewives (2004), and One Day at a Time (2017).

After dating for several years, the lovebirds decided to take their relationship to the next level.  The couple is also blessed with a child. Their son, Crosby James Grinnell, was born on May 18, 2018. Beaufort shared a beautiful picture of herself holding her son on her Instagram on October 26, 2022.
