On  April 22, 1967, Sherri Shepherd was born in Chicago, Illinois. She is the daughter of LaVerne and Lawrence A. Shepherd. Her father was a food service manager at Sambos Restaurant and a church deacon, while her mother worked as a cleaner.

Shepherd is the eldest of three sisters. When she was 11 years old, her family moved to the suburb of Hoffman Estates. Sherri completed her high school education at Hoffman High School.

However, after the show ended, Shepherd had to return to her law firm job for a while as she continued to work toward success in the entertainment industry. Eventually, Sherri landed recurring roles in sitcoms like Suddenly Susan and Everybody Loves Raymond before securing the lead role of Ramona Platt in the sitcom Less than Perfect.  

One of Sherri's notable achievements was co-hosting the daytime talk show The View in 2007, which earned her several Daytime Emmy Award nominations and a win in 2009. She also appeared in other sitcoms like The Jamie Foxx Show, Sherri, Trial & Error, and Mr. Iglesias.

In 2009, Shepherd published her book Permission Slips: Every Woman's Guide to Giving Herself a Break. Additionally, she competed on the reality competition series Dancing with the Stars in 2012.

Shepherd has been married twice in her life. Her first marriage was to Jeff Tarpley, who was 56 years old. They got married in 2001 but eventually divorced in 2009. 

Shepherd and her partner have a son named Jeffrey, born in 2005. Jeff was also an actor and made a guest appearance on The Jamie Foxx Show, in which Sherri starred, in 2000.  

Sherri's second marriage was to Lamar Sally. They exchanged vows in 2011 but separated after three years in 2014. In August 2014, they welcomed their son, Lamar Jr., through the use of a surrogate. 

Following their separation, Sherri revealed that she had chosen surrogacy out of fear that the relationship might not last. In 2016, Lamar requested an increase in child support payments. 

Shepherd's personal life has had its share of ups and downs, with two marriages that ended in divorce. However, she remains optimistic about the future and her pursuit of new connections.
