Henry Cole is a dynamic television personality and motorcycle enthusiast known for presenting some of the most popular motorcycle shows, including World's Greatest Motorcycle Rides, and founding Gladstone Motorcycles, a bespoke manufacturer named after his great-uncle.

The Birth of a Biker: Early Life and Education

Henry Cole was born in England on February 16, 1964, to a family steeped in a rich historical legacy. Indeed, his great-great-great-great uncle was no less than William Ewart Gladstone, late Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. 

Early education came in the form of Eton College, where his contemporaries included Boris Johnson. That was merely a salvo to far greater adventures waiting around the bend.

From Cameras to Classics: A Diverse Career

Henry Cole has had a whirlwind of careers, from news cameraman for ITV and TF1, shooting some of the most significant events around the world, to making rockumentaries and directing TV commercials. In 1995, Cole directed the semi-autobiographical film Mad Dogs and Englishmen, starring Elizabeth Hurley, marking a pivotal moment in his film career. 

That same year, he decided to create his own independent production company, which produced television factual entertainment programs called HCA Entertainment, where he took up producing and presenting various popular shows entitled World's Greatest Motorcycle Rides, The Motorcycle Show, Shed and Buried, Find It, Fix It, and Flog It, among others.

The Gladstone Legacy: Motorcycles and Speed

A very young Cole caught the motorcycle bug from his great-uncle Dick "Red Beard" Gladstone and later named his motorcycle company Gladstone Motorcycles after him. That is where this talented individual's deep roots in preserving classic motorcycles into innovative, modern designs all begin. 

He was even able to achieve a world land speed record for a pre-1955 750cc motorcycle on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2013. Again, his commitment to the sport is very evident.

Overcoming Adversity: Personal Life and Challenges

Henry Cole's personal life has not been without its challenges and successes. Between the ages of 19 and 24, he struggled with heroin addiction but has remained clean since 1988. As a result, he's become an outspoken advocate for overcoming addiction, frequently sharing his story to support others. 

When not attending to his duties, Cole lists among his hobbies fishing, classic tractors, cycling, and time with the family, which includes his wife Janie and sons Charlie and Tom.

A Life on Two Wheels: Literary Contributions

Other than his interests in TV and motorcycles, Cole has made his literary contributions known. He wrote the candidly introspective memoir of his life, struggles, and passion for motorcycles titled A Biker's Life. 

It is a very personal and introspective look at his life's journey so far, right from his fascination with motorcycles to a career in television and struggles in general.
