George Maharis is an American actor; in the first three seasons of the "Route 66" series, Buz Murdock was portrayed by him. At the height of his stardom, he also released several pop music CDs. He later acted in the brief TV series "The Most Deadly Game." He is one of seven children born to Greek immigrants in Astoria, Queens, and is not the only kid in the family. 

Maharis co-starred with Martin Milner in the hit TV show Route 66 in 1960 as Buz Murdock. Even though the character he was portraying was just 23 when the series began, he was 32 at the time. In 1962, he was nominated for an "Emmy" for his continued portrayal of Buz.

George is an American actor born on September 1st in Astoria, Queen, to Greek immigrants. The talented actor is of Greek and Native American ancestry and is an American citizen. Before making appearances in the Off-Broadway productions of "Deathwatch and The Zoo Story," he spent 18 years in the United States Marine Corps.

His more stage appearances include those in Search for Tomorrow, Naked City, Exodus, and the Goodyear Television Playhouse. He attended "the Actors Studio" and performed in the off-Broadway productions of "The Zoo Story" and "Deathwatch" by Jean Genet.

Maharis is a member of a big family. His Greek immigrant parents, Vasidos Maharis and Demetra Strains had seven children. On Long Island, his father managed three dining establishments.

Maharis and his siblings were raised in abject poverty due to his father's failing company. To provide for the family, his mother had to put in a lot of effort. Robert Maharis, one of his six siblings, was also an actor. His sibling passed away at a young age.

Several movies include Quick Followed Him, Before It Melts (1964), The Satan Bug and Sylvia (both 1965), A Covenant With Death and The Happening (all 1967), and The Desperados (1969). In 1970, he made a comeback to series television and played criminologist Jonathan Croft in "The Most Deadly Game." The 12-episode run of the show came to an end in January 1971.

George Maharis, an actor who was famous for being cool and driving a fancy car on TV in the 1960s, has passed away. His friend Marc Bahan announced on Facebook that he died on a Wednesday. Bahan told the Hollywood Reporter that Maharis got sick with hepatitis and passed away at his home in Beverly Hills, California. He was 94 years old.
