Chris Gauthier, Actor from 'Once Upon A Time' and 'Eureka,' Passes Away at 48

Canadian actor Chris Gauthier, known for his roles in popular television series such as "Once Upon a Time," "Smallville," and "Eureka," has sadly passed away. 

Gauthier's management announced that he succumbed to a brief illness on February 23 at the age of 48. He leaves behind his wife and children, mourning his loss.

Chad Colvin of TriStar Appearances confirmed the news in a heartfelt statement on Facebook, expressing profound sorrow. He shared, "When his wife informed me of the news yesterday, I was overcome with disbelief, shedding tears for hours. It has taken me until now to gather the strength to convey this message." 

However, Chad did not disclose the specific cause of Gauthier's passing. 

"Chris was a true character actor. Even if you didn't know his name, you'd recognize his face and voice. Whenever he appeared on screen, you knew it would be exciting. Whether he was battling Clark Kent on Smallville, causing trouble for Dean on Supernatural, sailing alongside Hook as Smee in Once Upon A Time, or making guest appearances in many other shows, he always put his heart into his performances whenever the camera was rolling," the statement continued. 

Besides the roles highlighted by Chad, Gauthier was also seen in various other TV series such as "Harper’s Island," "Sanctuary," "A Series of Unfortunate Events," "Legends of Tomorrow," "Charmed," and "Joe Pickett." 

Gauthier also appeared in movies such as "40 Days and 40 Nights," "Agent Cody Banks," and "Freddy vs. Jason."

Following the announcement of his passing on social media, Gauthier's friend Corrine Wright shared in a Facebook post that the actor had collaborated with luminaries like Anthony Hopkins and Robin Williams, alongside "a slew of other actors who all hold him in high esteem for his remarkable character." 

Colin O’Donoghue, known for his role as Hook in "Once Upon a Time," honored Gauthier on Instagram, saying, "Rest in Peace Chris! Heartbroken! My love and thoughts go out to Erin and the boys! You will be missed brother! You were the real captain!!"
