When Gardell was 8, his grandma told him he should be a comedian. He went to Winter Park High School and started working at 15, unloading trucks and stacking pallets in a store warehouse. 

Later, Gardell got a job at a comedy club cleaning bathrooms, answering phones, and seating guests. Eventually, he began doing stand-up comedy there during open mic nights.
