Alexander Mikhailovich Ovechkin, born on September 17, 1985, is a Russian professional ice hockey left winger and the captain of the Washington Capitals in the NHL. Known as "Ovi" or "the Great Eight" for his jersey number, Ovechkin is renowned as one of the greatest goal scorers in hockey history. 

Second only to Wayne Gretzky in all-time goal scoring, he holds various records, including the most power-play goals and most goals with the same team in NHL history. Ovechkin achieved the milestone of 800 regular-season goals, joining the elite company of Gordie Howe and Gretzky.
